Tribute to LGD's
One more round of the field ** Little
Orphan Annie
did the big dog she make, still
out in the cold,
most beautiful and graceful
as two beasts approached
inspecting the place so
big and so bold
Once again she sniffed
** Annie ran quite a spell
the air crisp and clear,
through brush, over rocks,
as she made her rounds
as the beasts gained ground
and protected those dear Annie
ran away from the flock
Little Orphan Annie lay alone ** Just
one desperate cry
on top of the rock,
from Annie it took
obvious trust in her keeper
big dog rose from her death bed
she was nudged to the flock
on legs that shook
All's well in the pasture **
Big dog swayed and she toppled
her charges all safe,
one more try she must,
the big dog relaxed
to save her sweet Annie
to the quiet night time pace
from a death so unjust
From the woods dark as night **
Thousands of years
a sudden noise arose,
of breeding so true,
the big dog jumped up welled
up inside big dog
and stiffly she froze
on to Annie she flew
Who dare come near
** Strength and courage
to this flock of mine,
flowed through big dogs blood,
I will protect them to death
her ancestral drive
she growled to the pines
came through for the good
The flock became restless **
Big dog attacked from behind
inside of their shed,
the second foe did she kill,
poor little Annie
on to the last and the biggest
was butted outside instead
until he be stilled
The big dog raced
** On to Annie
to the forest edge,
before it's too late,
you are their first line of defense who crouched down
in a nook
her master had said
accepting her fate
Six glowing eyes appeared **
Big dog pummelled the last
just inside of the wood,
of the beasts to the ground,
the big dog barked and growled
as had her ancestore past
then simply stood
her strength was re found
No fool am I
** The battle that ensued
to go in after you,
was too quick for the eye,
I am outnumbered greatly
now two raging beasts
but I have a chore to do one
of them must die
The vicious beasts
** Flashing teeth, crashing bodies
lunged out of the trees, spurting
blood, flying fur,
huge starving monsters
big dog fought blow for blow
overridden with fleas
she must disable this cur
The big dog attacked the foremost beast* No thought for herself
she dove in then out, quick as can be, it was for Annie she fought,
she drew blood on that one gave
the last of her strength
but there were three!
this will not be for naught
Big dog dodged and she twisted ** One last
victory
against these three foes,
one last lunge,
these beasts who threatened
with waning strength
her sacred does
she did surge
She sprung and she dove
** Big dog went for the throat
as they bit and tore,
primal instinct held true,
she growled and she fought
the monster was down
there was blood galore
no more need to persue
Down went one beast
** Big dog fell to the ground
all gouged and in pain,
bloody, exhausted, and weak,
the second loped off
Annie was safe and sound
to the shed down the lane!
but big dog's life thread was bleak
The third beast had stayed **
Gun in hand
to finish the task,
master ran to the scene,
big dog was outmatched
too late to his flock
but still she attacked
as he had foreseen
The battle raged
** Before masters eye
on that starry night,
did he see,
for what seemed like forever
with big dogs last breath
a ferocious fight
she was licking Annie
The huge beast was lucky
** All about was the blood
a damaging blow!
of the foes bodies three
down went the big dog
big dogs battle, tell tale signs
in the melting snow!
on the field, near the trees
Haze and fog
** Rainbow Bridge just ahead
had cluttered her brain,
her breath is no more,
big dog lay still
big dog gave up her life
silent,in pain
for her ultimate chore
Towards the goats
